Group Therapy

Programs

Our group services offer college students a chance to process and cope with their emotions and life transitions, using the same evidence-based techniques and skills used in individual therapy sessions, from emotional regulation to stress management. Research has shown that group counseling is an effective intervention. Group therapy sessions have the additional benefit of allowing young adults to learn not only from their therapists and themselves, but from their peers as well.

First years: Adjusting to College and living away from home

First years: Adjusting to College and living away from home gives young adults a space to discuss all the ways the college transition may be affecting them. In our sessions, we’ll learn practical skills for anxiety and stress management, building new social relationships, and forming healthy habits when living on one’s own. With the group as the lead, we will help young adults consider the many choices available to you in college and how you can create your own path of thriving.

Making friends at college

In our Making friends at college group, we’ll focus on one of the most challenging parts of navigating your first few years at college: new friendships. Our therapists will guide group discussion that navigates college students through the ins and outs of developing new social connections as young adults in a completely new environment. We will help you to explore the types of relationships you would like to have and make choices that will help to create healthy and meaningful relationships. These skills range from setting proper boundaries to developing healthy communication habits, to even time management skills, so that you can balance your academics and personal responsibilities with your social life.

Seniors: Getting ready to leave

Seniors: Getting ready to leave aims to help students whose roughly four years as undergraduates are almost up. This small group will focus on the unique anxieties and stressors that college seniors might be experiencing during a time of great uncertainty and impending change. It will also focus on using evidence-based strategies for college seniors to navigate those anxieties and stressors as they work through application cycles for their next steps, from jobs to grad schools to fellowships and beyond.
